Amazon Echo Spot, Echo Plus, Echo Connect and Echo Buttons Announced

If you are looking to buy 2 or 3 Echo devices, don't forget to reedem the voucher that Amazon includes.

You can pre-order the new Amazon Echo 2nd generation from today for $99.99 in the United States or £89.99 in the UK.

Amazon first introduced the Alexa-powered smart speaker back in late 2014, and it made a huge splash in the smart home market.

AMZN stock got a small bump today as word spread of the big event. For example, if you say "Alexa, good night" you'll trigger a series of actions on your smart home devices: Your lights will turn off, your TV will turn off, your door will lock.

Like the original Echo, the Echo is cylindrical, with a ring of LEDs around the top edge that light up when Alexa is activated. Audio gets enhanced with 360-degree omni-directional sound. While the Echo Plus retains the exact same dimensions as the original Echo (235 x 84 x 84mm), the all-new Echo is more compact (148.5 x 88 x 88mm), and closer in design to the Google Home.

Amazon is also claiming improved sound which would be a welcome improvement as I find the original Echo to be decent at best for the price. The intelligent speaker is now available for pre-order in the US. The new, upgraded device was announced September 27, 2017 and is smaller in size. Amazon is also selling two-packs of Echo Button wireless pushbutton controllers for $19.

Amazon's dominance in the voice recognition game, largely due to the superior versatility and convenience of its devices, may be causing some friction with its competitors. They are the first of the Alexa Gadgets and are deigned to provide users with a physical way to interact with other Echo devices.

Finally, the new Alexa-enabled Fire TV with 4K and HDR will retail for $69.99 and can be preordered starting today and land on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Echo Plus will cost $149.

The existing Echo speaker is listed as "unavailable" on Amazon which is yet another indication that a successor might be coming soon. It also goes on sale today.

Amazon, the company that created the smart speaker category with the Amazon Echo in 2015, added the smaller hockey puck looking Amazon Echo Dot in October 2016.
