With the draw Golovkin's record is now 37-0-1, while Alvarez is now 49-1-2. "And he kept the action flowing, so we have to give him a lot of credit".
After a closely fought bout in Las Vegas, one judge scored it 118-110 for Alvarez, another 115-113 for Golovkin and the third a 114-114 draw.
George Foreman wanted a KO!
In what was a true super-fight following the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor bout, many felt Golovkin had the edge over Canelo and should have won the contest.
The sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada came and got exactly what they paid for in seeing the talented pugilists square off. For me, we saw the most fitting fight two current champions could provide. Alvarez believes that he was the "superior" man inside the ring and is convinced that he won seven to eight rounds of the match.
From the eyes of most people on social media, boxing experts and from HBO's round-by-round scorecard, the fight was clearly Golovkin's.
The result of the fight meant Golovkin will be keeping his middleweight titles. In March, he showed he could go the distance and win over Daniel Jacobs but their 12-round fight snapped a string of 23 consecutive knockouts for Golovkin. "I will set that up with Eric [Gomez] and Oscar [De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions] if they want to make an offer".
When Loeffler was asked whether he would request that their rematch take place at Madison Square Garden in NY, he said they're open to fighting Alvarez anywhere.
Canelo landed 218 total punches during the fight, with 210 of them coming to GGGs head region.
"Canelo" started the stronger in the first couple of rounds, landing a nice combination in the first and dealing with Golovkin's jab well. The fight was scored a draw, but the real takeaway that had people talking was the scorecards.
