Ryan school death: Gurgaon police arrests school gardener

Even as the investigation is progressing, the Ryan International zone head Francis Thomas approached the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the trial in the case out of Haryana.

The school management said it was cooperating with police investigations.

However, the names and whereabouts of other members of the trust - registered as a public charitable trust in Maharashtra in the early 1980s - remain a mystery as all officials refused to take calls.

The fresh PIL, filed through lawyer Sujeeta Srivastava, raised the issue of children "being exploited and subjected to child abuse repeatedly within the boundaries of the schools" and demanded that central and state governments notify a set of "non-negotiable" child safety conditions for schools.

A team of Gurgaon Police arrived in the Maharashtra capital today in connection with its probe into the brutal killing of a 7-year-old student on the campus of Ryan International School in Haryana last week.

Acting on the report of a threemember panel that had indicated lapses, the two top officials of the school management were arrested under section 75 of the Juvenile Justice act, police officials said.

Pradyuman Thakur, a student of Ryan International School, was found in school toilet on Friday.

Barun Chandra Thakur, the father of the student has said in his plea filed through advocate Sushil Tekriwal, that the apex court should monitor the CBI probe.

The reproduction of the story/photograph in any form will be liable for legal action.

"The victim after being stabbed in his neck, struggled and crawled taking the help of walls outside the toilet when a fellow student and the gardener noticed him", said Ashok Bakshi, deputy commissioner of police, south Gurgaon to the media. Neerja Batra was a stand-in principal.

In a related development, the Bombay High Court granted interim protection from arrest to Ryan International Group's founding chairman Augustine Pinto and his wife and managing director Grace till tomorrow in connection with the murder.

Kumar, the son of Amichand, resident of village Ghamroj has been arrested in the Bhondsi murder case of a seven-year-old child, the DCP said in a statement. The school, according to the SIT, also did not carry out the mandatory police verification checks while hiring the support staff.

Another fact that raises doubts over what actually happened to Pradyuman is the Gurgaon Police's allegation that school authorities tampered with the evidence. Meanwhile, safety measures were beefed up at the school.
