Everybody in India is a dynast, don't go after me: Rahul Gandhi

Mr Akhilesh Yadav is a dynast. Stalin is a dynast.

"Even (Prem Kumar) Dhumal's son (Anurag Thakur) is a dynast, so don't go just after me", Rahul said at the event. Rahul in his speech talked about dynasty legacy citing the example of actor Abhishek Bachchan, which irked Rishi.

Ms Irani, who is a Rajya Sabha MP and was elected to a second term last month, often visits Amethi making scathing assessments of Mr Gandhi's performance as its Member of Parliament. She said, it proves that merit, not dynasty, drove India's robust democracy.

The Congress Party leader also denounced demonetization and the "hastily-applied" Goods and Services Tax, both of which he said have caused tremendous damage to India's economy. His mother, on the other hand, was able to with her work and travel through the length and breadth of the country, similar to Modi, was able to unite and bring her party it back to power. Asked whether he was open to it, he said, "yes, sure".

"He has certain skills".

Ravi Shankar Prasad dismissed Gandhi's criticism of demonetisation suggesting that the Congress leader do his homework better. So his messaging abilities very subtle and very effective. "The country (India) is not listening so he is speaking somewhere else", Irani said at a BJP press conference.

Gandhi arrived in San Francisco yesterday and will, during his two-week USA tour, meet Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and thought leaders to develop a better path forward for the Congress party. This sparked a row in India with BJP leaders taking a dig at the Congress VP and claiming he "belittled" his political opponents in America. He said: "India's partition was the bloodiest migration recorded in history". While pointing at schemes like MGNREGA and GST, Rahul said BJP is doing what Congress had proposed previously. "We know it because it has stopped working". "And you saw a massive increase in violence", he said. Muslims were killed on suspicion of eating beef. "They do exist", he added. In today's connected world, this is extremely risky.

Gandhi came out nearly in defence of dynasty politics, though he said "this is how it works in India", and "don't blame me alone".

On a question of being a reluctant politician, he said the BJP had a tremendous machine on social media. They tell you all these things... "And I can name them in every state. The operation is run by the gentleman who is running our country", he alleged.

On the 1984 riots, Rahul said he condemned the violence. I lost my father and grandmother to violence. So don't get after me because that's how they India is run. Using violence against a person, who is infected by an idea, actually, results in an idea spreading more aggressively.
