Horry, Georgetown counties are not being evacuated as Hurricane Irma threatens Florida

Tropical storm wind gusts will begin developing Sunday through Monday throughout the state, and hurricane-force winds are possible along the coast.

"Monday afternoon and into the evening, especially down in the south areas of Charlotte and upstate of SC, we might see some isolated tornadoes". There is also the chance for isolated, quick moving tornadoes along the coast.

The barrier islands are located in the counties of Colleton, Beaufort and Jasper, and only residents who reside on the islands are included in the mandatory evacuation, McMaster said. The Republican governor says expected storm surges of up to 6 feet would bring "serious flooding" to those low-lying areas.

"Traffic levels have returned to pre-storm conditions, if not lower", Hall said.

State Attorney General Alan Wilson said even though there have been more than 200 price gouging complaints, that is far less than past storms.

"He said he is with us", McMaster said.

Deal was joined by other state officials during a Friday morning press conference about the preparations for Irma and resources available to the public.

"Things are looking better for North Carolina with Hurricane Irma, but our state is not yet in the clear and we can't let our guard down", Cooper said in a statement Saturday.

More than half of Georgia, including the entire southern half of the state, is now under a state of emergency as Hurricane Irma slugs its way toward Florida.

Local governments also teamed up with county emergency officials to distribute emergency preparedness information to citizens prior to next week.

Morrow added that if it mainly travels over land, the storm will weaken faster than if it travels over the Gulf Stream.

Not if you live on one of eight coastal islands ordered evacuated Saturday by S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster. However, the city could still very well feel some of the affects of the unsafe storm.

"These short-lived tornadoes will continue to develop across parts of SC and Georgia on Monday", Kottlowski said. All of this will occur after the storm has passed between Cuba and the Bahamas and already killed at least 10 people throughout the Caribbean.
