#FeedonThis: Almost….but not quite for the Bears in Week 1

When they saw him hunched over on the sidelines, Bears fans cringed.

"We're going to be a good football team - we are a good football team", Miller said. The Bears' Freeman and his partner at inside linebacker, Danny Trevathan, are dependable tacklers and must find a way to stop the running game to prevent Atlanta from dominating time of possession. Jordan Howard then dropped a pass near the goal line and Glennon threw incomplete on third down before he was pulled down by Reed on his final chance.

By the time Falcons tight end Austin Hooper pointed skyward and crossed the goal line, so much had gone wrong for the Bears defense. With Howard being one of the league's leading rushers a year ago, and Cohen's playmaking ability, the two have the potential to be one of the best one-two backfield combos in the NFL.

The duo certainly provide an intriguing combination, as Howard is a physical runner and Cohen moves around the field with quickness and ease, but the rookie was quick to compliment and praise his teammate for being one of the underappreciated stars of the NFL. The game ended on fourth down when QB Mike Glennon was sacked and the Falcons escaped Soldier Field with a 23-17 victory.

"To me it wasn't a controversial pick at all", said Joniak.

"Yeah, I kind of feel that", Trubisky said. Like all opening games, they aren't oiled up really well., You have a lot of new people. "Sometimes when you're open, it can be the most hard". The Bears haven't opened against the defending NFC champions since losing 38-24 in the 1997 opener at Green Bay. "It burns inside because it's close". We had an opportunity to do that. Coming off an MVP season, Ryan was 21 of 30 passing for 321 yards and a touchdown. The 88-yard touchdown catch doubles Hooper's previous career-long reception of 44 yards. Jones went into the locker room at halftime with four catches for 66 yards receiving.

The touchdown was particularly encouraging because he had just six on the ground last season despite a head-turning 1,313 rushing yards.

Playing with a patchwork group of receivers, Glennon threw for 163 of his 213 yards in the fourth quarter and almost led the Bears to a comeback win against the defending NFC champions. The Bears had two more whiffed tackles on a crucial 3rd and 10 allowing Hooper to run for 40 yards.

It was early in the season and Kevin White is injured, again. His day was highlighted by a 19-yard touchdown catch and run in the fourth quarter to cut Atlanta's lead to three.

White, the seventh overall pick of the 2015 NFL draft, appeared in just four regular-season games in his first two seasons in the league because of two fractures in his leg. That was a play a year ago against Kansas City that he got beat on. I thought we were going to be a special football team from the get-go. We just got the win today. That's the question that we put to our CBS Sports Radio colleagues.

The Bears defense started strong but it did wear down, and soon the lack of depth showed. I think the enthusiasm would be a little bit different, I would think.

It started before the snap, as the Falcons broke the huddle.
