Nissan targets new Leaf global sales of more than 90000 a year

As Jaguar Land Rover makes its pledge, Nissan has added its own leap in electric auto technology with the next-generation Leaf, the world's bestselling electric vehicle.

She added that automakers are increasingly trying to give drivers the feel of future models, which the Leaf can do.

Equipped with a nippy 110kw electric drivetrain (equivalent to 148bhp), its biggest trick is one-pedal driving.

Nissan on Tuesday unveiled its 2018 Leaf to relatively little fanfare. Tesla Inc. launched its entrant into the mass market in July, the Model 3, priced at $35,000 before the federal tax credit and with a starting range of 220 miles. It accelerates smoothly and silently up to highway speeds with about as much gusto as you'd get from one of the small turbocharged gas engines that are under the hood of a growing percentage of compact cars. To date, Nissan has sold over 112,000 Leaf EVs in the United States and more than 283,000 globally, making it the world's best-selling electric vehicle.

The update comes after the firm revealed its new Leaf on Wednesday, but declined to say where the new vehicle would be manufactured.

The new Leaf's infotainment touchscreen, for example, will be familiar from other Nissans, while the round drive control unit has been carried over from the previous model. As in the outgoing Leaf, the new Leaf's motor drives the front wheels only. Torque has been increased to 320 Nm, resulting in improved acceleration.

Nissan became the first carmaker to commercially offer a EV with the first-generation Leaf in 2010.

The new 2018 LEAF/40 kWh version is clearly targeted to once again dominate the lower spectrum of the EV market, and to take fulladvantage of the USA federal credit - as its predecessor did. Moreover, it can also run on a highway in a single lane without the assistance of the driver. As the first affordable long-range electric vehicle, the Bolt is now available nationwide in the US with a starting price of $37,495 including destination. Lifting slowly off the accelerator brings the vehicle to a gradual stop, while lifting off quickly is similar to full emergency braking.

When driving you press on the accelerator to go. The first is ProPILOT advanced driver assistance system which has been created to make single lane driving on the road less stressful and more relaxing.

The Japanese carmaker is also considering a higher-performance option with a range beyond 360 kms to rival the Model 3, according to Schillaci.
