Google Adds Video Previews Function to Android

Android O is supposed to be Android 8, and like it is with all Android updates, everyone just wants to know which dessert name Google is picking this time.

The big surprise that, well, wasn't that much of a surprise is here: the new version of Google's smartphone platform is Android Oreo. Google states that Android 8.0 Oreo offers two times faster boot speed, which was measured on the Google Pixel.

Curiously, Google chose the upcoming total solar eclipse over the United States as the flawless background for its reveal.

Spotted by Android Police, the video accompanying the Google+ post's teaser bore the word "Oreo" in the filename. Google plans to have a live stream from NY, which will start at 2.40 pm Eastern Standard Time (EST) which is around 12.10 AM for India.

Upon clicking this, your phone will be automatically updated to the new software. At the moment the OS is in beta testing and in late June released the fourth version of the preview firmware.

It has been in developer preview since May, with Google rolling out a release candidate in August. Likewise, Android Oreo will include support for Neighborhood Aware Networking and features better energy management thanks to new restrictions on background tasks.

As if you didn't already have enough on the agenda, Google just teased a big Android O announcement happening on August 21. The video file named "GoogleOreo_Teaser_0817_noDroids (1).mp4" is an eclipse-themed Android O teaser.

Similar to notifications in Apple iPhones, Android O-powered smartphones too will now show the notification count in top corner of the app icon.

Meanwhile, you'll be able to watch videos while using other apps on your phone or tablet with its picture-in-picture feature. So far, Android O will come to the following devices: Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P. Considering today's world that is more focused on healthier living, now would probably be the right time for Android to adopt a new way of life.
