Santana leads to Twins to sweep, first place in AL Central

Last weekend, Cleveland played four games and scored 28 runs. After a successful 7-1 road trip, the Indians have been outplayed in two straight home games.

Santana continued his stellar season, keeping his opposition scoreless despite allowing nine hits and throwing three wild pitches.

Minnesota starting pitcher, Kyle Gibson, did not get the win but pitched ok.

The Twins extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth when Rosario led off the inning by hitting a line drive into the seats in right field for his 10th home run. Francisco Lindor doubled with two outs, but center fielder Byron Buxton made a diving catch of Kipnis' liner.

Just one series in a 162-game season, but taking the lead back atop the division sends the Twins to Boston on a high note.

Gennett was 8-for-13 in the series with three RBIs. The over/under total for the game has been set at 9.5 runs. He pitched 6 scoreless innings, and got out of a threat unscathed in every inning from the 2nd through the 6th.

MIAMI - Right-hander Edinson Volquez maintained his flawless record against Chicago as Miami defeated the defending World Series champion Cubs. He is 0-3 with a 6.55 ERA in his last four starts against the Indians.

4th: Runners on first and third base with one out. He worked a career-high eight innings in a win over the White Sox on Wednesday.

"Adalberto probably had the most stressful five-inning, two-hit shutout that I've seen in some time", Twins manager Paul Molitor said.

Tomlin uncharacteristically displayed a lack of command, walking three batters to snap his franchise-record streak of 45 consecutive starts without walking more than two. In his career vs. Minnesota, Tomlin is 5-5 with a 5.13 ERA.

The first game of the series went the Twins' way with a final score of 5-0. With one out, Brian Dozier lost a popup in the sun, which gave the Indians a base runner they didn't deserve. Rickard scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Jones.

Gimenez's last outfield action of any sort came April 15, 2012 at Boston's Fenway Park while with the Tampa Bay Rays. He has 93 punchouts and 19 walks in 72 1/3 innings. Juan Graterol contributed a two-run single for Los Angeles.

The constant throughout the series was catcher Jason Castro, who started all three games behind the plate. We didn't just want to win the series, we wanted to sweep. But the Twins' sweep in Cleveland allowed them to take first place back from the Indians.

Cleveland's hit with a runner in scoring position came in the fourth, but didn't produce a run. But Rogers retired Jose Ramirez on a groundout to end the inning.

According to sources, the Twins went over slot for third-round right-hander Blayne Enlow ($2 million), fifth-round third baseman Andrew Bechtold ($600,000), sixth-round infielder Ricky De La Torre ($550,000) and seventh-round left-hander Ryley Widell ($400,000).

Bautista homered with Ryan Goins aboard in the fifth to tie the score at 2. That was an 8-3 Twins loss on May 14 at Progressive Field.

SEATTLE - Houston hit three tape-measure home runs and got a solid performance from its bullpen in its victory over Seattle. Kluber has not allowed an earned run in his last 21 innings. "Throw strikes, first-pitch strikes".

Bellinger got in on the multi-home run action with two blasts in a win over the Rockies. He was the DH today and was 0-for-3 with a walk. Brandon Kintzler recorded his 20 save to close the door on Cleveland. "We battled. That's what good teams do". His last outfield start came on September 19, 2011, while with the Seattle Mariners; he played the first seven innings of a 12-6 win at Cleveland.

It's the reason they're in first place.
