Ever since the JD (U) strongman made a decision to back former Bihar governor and NDA Presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind instead of Opposition candidate Meira Kumar, the war of words between the two major alliance partners - RJD and JD (U) - has got murkier. The opposition last week named Kumar, a Dalit leader from Bihar and former minister, as its candidate against former Bihar governor and Dalit activist Kovind, who was likely to succeed Pranab Mukherjee as the president because of the NDA's strength in Parliament and state assemblies. Bihar's daughter should be nominated to win, not to lose. I think this should not be read as something that would go against the Presidential candidate from the Opposition, ? Though a positive gesture in support of Ms Swaraj, the BJP leadership grew uncomfortable over the remarks and hence, Ms Sushma Swaraj has to take the cudgils against Meira Kumar. And as far as JD (U) is concerned, it has always taken independent decisions, even when we were a part of NDA. "If Nitish Kumar joins the NDA, LJP will welcome him".
On 23 June, the RJD chief and opposition parties had also appealed to Kumar to reconsider the JD (U)'s support to Kovind but he stood his ground. Babu Jagjivan Ram did a lot for Bihar and the entire country. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh even called Nitish Kumar "Jaichand and Man Singh", traitors in the Rajputana wars against the Mughals. "She was chosen as the opposition's choice for the President only after the NDA nominated Mr. Kovind, a Dalit", the LJP President said.
Four minutes into the video, then Speaker Meira Kumar is seen repeatedly saying "alright", "thank you", "okay", "I have to proceed", hinting then Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj to conclude her speech.
He said the JD (U) had chose to extend support to NDA nominee in the Presidential election only after giving a serious thought to it.
"Some of the political parties like JD (U), (Biju Janata Dal) BJD, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) or Shiv Sena have already announced that they are supporting Kovind". Both leaders were said to have been agitated over Kumar "not stopping" Congress MPs from disrupting Advani while he was speaking on the cash-for-vote scam in the Lok Sabha.
