No recent effort by Celtics to add Jimmy Butler, per Danny Ainge

Coach Brad Stevens was measured with his praise for Brown this past season and has at times been his harshest critic. He resisted the temptations teams across the league were offering for that golden pile of assets Ainge continues to protect like a Brinks guard. There are some rumblings that the Celtics could closing in on a star player.
The Celtics were rumored to be chasing Butler in recent seasons, especially during last year's draft and again at February's trade deadline. OG Anunoby of IN has a "NBA body" as a potential combo guard, and he sees Sindarius Thornwell of SC "making an National Basketball Association team as a second round pick".
Jayson Tatum is among the most promising prospects in the 2017 National Basketball Association draft class.
It's probably the biggest reason they have been high on Tatum throughout the draft process, and brought him in for a private workout late last week. Jackson canceled a workout last week while multiple members of Boston's front office were in the middle of a cross-country flight to visit him. "Went at a high tempo, but when he missed a shot he never showed anything but resolve to make the next one". "Anybody who knows me knows that I love to win, and I see that in a lot of the guys on their team, so I would love to play in Boston". More than ever, he's the heavy favorite to get his wish to play for his hometown team.
Both Giles and Tatum bagged a victory before choosing to enter the draft.
"We would have picked Jayson with the first pick".
"I think that he's a guy that we thought really highly of from Day 1", Stevens said. Tatum has great speed, size and rebounding ability for someone playing his position and can be a facilitator in getting his teammates the ball when they have a chance to score.
Phil Jackson coached Scottie Pippen, a fast, slender, 6-foot-8 perimeter player blessed with terrific court vision and defensive instincts. Gordon Hayward is an obvious free-agent target and the Indiana Pacers appear all but forced into trading Paul George. Both Fraschilla and Bilas will be part of the draft night coverage. But according to Ainge, Jackson has no one to blame but himself for convincing the Celtics to pass on him.
The Celtics began the afternoon waiting for the monumental asking price on Porzingis to drop. As a result, Ainge says no one with the Celtics organization talked with Jackson, who went to the Suns at No. 4.
With Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball sure things at 1 and 2, the biggest drama on draft night was the Celtics' pick at No. 3.
"I'm trying not to cry right now", Tatum said in an interview on ESPN following the Thursday draft.
Coach Rick Carlisle said after the choice was announced that he was projecting Smith as a starter, which means the Mavericks should know their lineup when the season opens with four other projected starters under contract.
"We've watched Jayson play a lot over the past couple of years and we're very excited to have him", Ainge said.
