Trump urged to prioritise removal of trade barriers with India

Calling Mr Modi a true friend, President Trump said he looks forward to welcome Prime Minister Modi and discuss important strategic issues.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India has now emerged as a business-friendly destination, more so with the upcoming implementation of landmark goods and services (GST) beginning next month, while asking CEOs of top USA companies to invest in the country.
Both Trump and Modi will have a one-on-one meeting on Monday, followed by a delegation-level meeting, a cocktail reception and a working dinner hosted by Trump - the first of its kind under his administration.
". The President and the Prime Minister will discuss ongoing cooperation, including counterterrorism, defence partnership in the Indo-Pacific region, global cooperation, burden-sharing, trade, law enforcement, and energy".
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer had said President Trump and Prime Minister Modi would have a very robust discussion when they meet at the White House.
Indian officials reject suggestions that Modi's "Make in India" platform is protectionist and complain about the USA regulatory process for generic pharmaceuticals and rules on fruit exports to the United States.
"While announcing the United States withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement, Trump accused India of obtaining unfair and undue advantage and this led to a firm rebuff from Delhi".
White House staffers admit they are fighting perceptions in New Delhi that India is not a priority for Trump, who has also had face-time with the leaders of Japan, Britain, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia and Egypt among others. Among the collaborations on the agenda are: Expansion of Israeli export vessels to India, academic and technological projects, encouragement of investments and tourism, and even filming an authentic Bollywood film in Israel. The more we share happiness on this occasion the more it increases.
"Both governments are messaging that this summit is about building a personal relationship and finding an equation between two men that's comparable to the good working relationship Modi had with [ex-US President Barack] Obama".
Modi was welcomed with loud cheers and applause by the Indian community members who were waiting outside the Willard InterContinental Hotel here to catch a glimpse of the Indian leader.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday remembered the Emergency imposed on this day in 1975, saying "such a black night" can not be forgotten, and underlined the need for eternal vigilance to preserve democracy.
