Tim Tebow will play his final game with the Columbia Fireflies Sunday

Former Heisman Trophy victor Tim Tebow is returning to Florida to play for the St. Lucie Mets minor league baseball team.

- The New York Mets are promoting Tim Tebow to the St. Lucie Mets, their Class A-Advanced team in Florida, ESPN reported on Sunday. It is unlikely that Tebow's move is due to his stunning play: the 29-year-old rookie batted.222 with three home runs and 23 RBIs for the Fireflies, stats that the Mets general manager, Sandy Alderson, admitted are underwhelming.

Former Heisman Trophy victor Tim Tebow was schedule to make his second appearance in Lexington this week when the Columbia Fireflies visit the Lexington Legends for a three-game series. Tebow has struck out 69 times and walked 23 times.

Tebow had been playing low-A ball for the Columbia Fireflies in SC. "The bottom line is the average isn't there, but he's improving". His endeared himself forevermore to his fans in 2011, when he helped push the Denver Broncos to a playoff spot and first-round victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tim Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback at the University of Florida, will be moving on up in the New York Mets farm system as he has earned a promotion.

In 2015, Tebow signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and played in four preseason games before being released.
