Six die in Gulmarg cable auto accident

Hundreds are people are said to be stranded due to the stoppage of cable auto service. According to reports, strong winds uprooted a pine tree that hit the Gondola, thus breaking the cable. Baramullah Senior Superintendent of Police Imtiyaz Hussain told Hindustan Times that a husband and wife and their two children from Delhi were killed in the accident. The deceased family members have been identified as Jayant Andraskar, Manshea Andraskar and their daughters- Anagha and Janhvi.

Five people including two children were killed Sunday when a tree fell on a gondola at a ski resort in Indian-administered Kashmir, sending a passenger cabin crashing to the ground. They were reported to be from Shalimar Bagh in Delhi. A as per PTI, Mukhtar Ahmad, a resident of Chonti Patri Babareshi was also killed, the official said.

The tree fell between two Gondola towers and snapped the cable which supports the cable auto. It is the world's second highest operating cable vehicle project with a cabin capacity of ferrying 600 people in one hour. Conveying their condolences to the bereaved families, the President and Working President prayed for peace to the departed souls.

An official said rescue teams had gone to the site but further details were not available.
