Roger Federer Claims 1100th Tour Win

Roger Federer has beaten Florian Mayer for an eighth time without a loss to knock the defending champion out of Germany's Halle Open in the quarter-finals 6-3 6-4.

The eight-time Halle champion prevailed after one hour and 25 minutes.

"It was all a little uncertain because I don't know him that well", Federer said.

The 21-year-old Khachanov right hander, is now third in the Emirates ATP Race To Milan, looking to qualify for the inaugural Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan at the end of the year.

It worked for him all through the first set, which he stretched to a tiebreak.

Federer, who lost to German veteran Tommy Haas in Stuttgart, has not dropped a set in three matches this week while improving his record in Halle to 57-6.

Federer had words of affection for Zverev, who won their semifinal in Halle previous year.

A win here would perfectly cap off Federer's pre-Wimbledon preparations.

Haase saved three set points en route to a 6-3 7-6 (9/7) victory, which secures his first quarter-final in Halle at the fifth attempt. I had lots of chances to even go up a double break in the second set.

While Federer their initial meeting previous year in the Rome Masters, Zverev returned the faovur a month later with a three-set victory in the Halle semi-finals. Rublev, who received a wild-card for the grass-court tournament, defeated Mikhail Youzhny 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.

Zverev, 20, battled hard to stay with his illustrious opponent at the start of the second set, but failed to make any inroads into the Federer serve.

Fourth seed Alexander Zverev, who upset Federer 12 months ago, will face Gasquet after a 6-7 (6/8) 7-6 (7/1) 6-1 victory over Roberto Bautista Agut.
