Jayson Tatum picked third by the Boston Celtics in NBA Draft

After being drafted with the third overall pick at Thursday night's NBA Draft, Jayson Tatum will bring his NBA-ready offense to the Boston Celtics next season.

Tatum, who averaged 16.8 points per game in his lone freshman season at Duke, can be the answer for a Celtics team that had to rely far too heavily on point guard Isaiah Thomas for quick scoring in hard situations. Here's more about this rising star in the National Basketball Association, including facts about his family in Jayson Tatum's wiki.

It was the second straight year the Celtics have chosen third overall.

"It's great", he said. More than ever, he's the heavy favorite to get his wish to play for his hometown team. One of the best two-way players in the National Basketball Association. He's a great, great scorer. Tatum told the Bleacher Report he felt helpless as he watched his mother cry, but she assured him, "I'll figure something out".

As part of the deal with Philadelphia, Boston will also receive a first-round draft pick in either 2018 or 2019 - giving it even more bargaining chips to bolster its roster.

Tatum also provides some rotation flexibility, with the ability to play both forward spots and defend as many as four positions. Now we're starting to really - we've got a lot of position-less players that can dribble, pass, and shoot.

Fultz said it's the pictures of the things that mean the most to him.

While the Celtics' presumed interest in Tatum gives him at least a slightly clear outlook - though which team after Boston would take him is quite unclear - Isaac could be in the mix as high as No. 4 to the Phoenix Suns or as low as No. 9 to the Dallas Mavericks, in a worst-case scenario.

As the Celtics did their due diligence on Tatum, Stevens said Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski was "obviously very complimentary" about the young wing.

This from a team that finished 12th just three years ago shows the unbelievable progress Boston have made under Stevens. But he's really talented offensively and I think he's still just scratching the surface of what he's going to be. I was all for it. "But I think you guys who know me well know how competitive I am". But whether it's one of these guys to Boston, New York or L.A., can we all just cross our fingers and hope that those three franchises make the right moves to climb back to relevance?

"I started to lose faith", Tatum said during his introductory media session Friday, via the Providence Journal.

And he knows exactly who he'll be going up against. Mason's story is as good as there has been during my time covering Kansas and that's what makes it so easy to feel so good for him as he sits on the brink of watching his lifelong dream come true.

It was reported earlier today by Bleacher Report that ESPN's Chad Ford said the Celtics are leaning towards the Duke Blue Devils' Jayson Tatum with the No. 3 pick.

He turned out to be correct.

College-sports reporter Allison Williams will conduct post-pick interviews with the draftees, and the 76ers' No. 1 overall pick is expected to sit down at the main desk with Davis, Rose, Wilbon, and Bilas. "And then I'd have to break out my two gold medals that I won with Team USA", the junior Tatum said.

With their second selection of the night, No. 37, the Celtics took SMU's Semi Ojeleye, a versatile 6-foot-7 forward who was a projected first-round pick leading up to the draft.

The Fayetteville native averaged 18.1 points and 6.2 assists per game in his lone season with the Wolfpack.
