Facts about retrial of Bill Cosby on sex assault charges

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) — The names of the jurors who failed to reach a verdict in Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial have not been made public, but the judge in the case could revisit the issue as early as Monday. The Constand case is the only one that fell within the statutes of limitations, and Philadelphia District Attorney Kevin Steele was voracious in fighting to take down Cosby.

Andrea Constand thanked her supporters after a Pennsylvania judge declared a mistrial in her sexual assault case against Bill Cosby.

A judge will hear arguments on whether the names of the jurors at Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial should be made public.

"You can't put a price tag on justice", Steele said when asked about complaints on social media concerning the cost of the initial trial.

Mike McCloskey told a Pittsburgh radio station that he had served as an alternate and would have voted to convict Cosby.

If prosecutors do stand by their vow to try Bill Cosby a second time, it is possible that they will try to persuade the judge to allow more accusers to take the stand (only one, in addition to Andrea Constand, was allowed during the first trial).

Under questioning from her lawyer, Cosby acknowledged that he had obtained several prescriptions for quaaludes in the 1970s for the goal of offering the powerful sedative to women he wanted to have sex with. It is not yet clear why jurors could not reach a verdict, or how close they came. They say that releasing the names of the jurors could make it more hard to select an impartial jury in the next trial.

Cosby, who turns 80 next month, is accused of drugging and molesting a woman at his home in 2004. Media from around the world descended on Norristown and packed two courtrooms to report on the proceedings and the more than 52 hours of jury deliberations that ended when the panel declared it was hopelessly deadlocked.

Jurors can reveal they were on the jury. Alluding to a consensual sexual encounter, Cosby stated in a 2005 deposition that he administered Benadryl to help "relax" Constand.

What remains to be calculated is the cost to select a jury from Allegheny County because of concerns about pretrial publicity, the transportation of the 12 jurors and six alternates to Montgomery County, their lodging at a nearby hotel for two weeks and their meals.

He advised jurors when the trial ended Saturday that they didn't need to discuss the case.

William Henry Cosby Jr., as his name appears on charging documents, remained calm but appeared exhausted as the mistrial was declared. After Casey Anthony was acquitted of suffocating her 2-year-old daughter in 2011, one juror quit her job and moved due to death threats she received, Hannaford-Agor said.

"This was basically just practicing to get the ball in the basket", Allison says she told Constand, a former star high school, college and Italian professional league basketball player. Several of them attended the criminal trial with their lawyers.
