Blazers draft Purdue big man Caleb Swanigan at 26

The Trail Blazers don't have any free agents so it'll be an uphill challenge for Swanigan to receive minutes right away, but he wasn't the Big Ten Player of the Year for no reason.

While it may take him time to be a useful contributor to the Trail Blazers, Swanigan has the potential to give other teams fits with his scoring down low. Both players are two very promising and impressive up and coming stars, so these teams are lucky to have chosen them for sure.

During the NBA Draft Thursday, the Portland Trail Blazers selected Gonzaga center Zach Collins and Purdue forward Caleb Swanigan.

In addition to selecting Swanigan, the Associated Press reported that a person with knowledge of the deal says the Portland Trail Blazers traded the No. 15 and No. 20 picks in the National Basketball Association draft to Sacramento in exchange for the No. 10 pick, Gonzaga center Zach Collins. A year ago at Purdue he averaged 18.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Swanigan had a stellar sophomore season in West Lafayette. He played only 16 games before he had his season-ending knee injury. Nevertheless, there's a great deal to like about the 19-year-old seven-footer. This is why it's good that his injury wasn't permanent. The Toronto Raptors, the team that drafted OG Anunoby, have had a rocky and complicated year.
