Artists For Grenfell charity single debuts at number one

Artists for Grenfell have gone straight to number one on the official United Kingdom singles chart with their charity cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Water".

In the process, the song has become the second fastest-selling single of the year so far, behind Ed Sheeran's "Shape Of You".

From there, the song quickly cycles through its all-star crew of vocalists, including Jessie J, Jessie Ware, Leona Lewis, Rita Ora, Craig David, the Libertines' Carl Barat and Stereophonics' Kelly Jones, among many others.

The single, released through Artists for Grenfell, will benefit the London Community Foundation, and is available to purchase on iTunes. Stormzy and rap collective WSTRN also contributed original verses to the cover.

Pete Townshend is pitching in to assist victims of last week's deadly Grenfell Tower fire.

According to the Official Charts Company, a total of 170,000 sales have been recorded across digital and streaming.

Simon Cowell's star-studded charity cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" makes it into the top twenty-five in its first week.

The Artists for Grenfell hit has ended Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber's run at the top of the charts with Despacito, while DJ Khaled, Rihanna & Bryson Tiller's Wild Thoughts debuts at three.

Rock duo Royal Blood, who will perform on Friday on the mainPyramid stage at Glastonbury festival, have claimed the top position on the album charts with How Did We Get So Dark, their sophomore effort.
