After visit, Ryan says Scalise is 'doing well'

Tim Slater, special agent in charge of the FBI's Washington field office, holds up a flyer looking for information about shooter James T. Hodgkinson at a news conference a week ago in Alexandria, Va.

A source familiar with the condition told NBC on Friday that the Louisiana Republican remains in fair condition at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Another U.S. Capitol Police officer was struck by shrapnel and Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, injured his ankle while helping others take cover.

The FBI said in a statement the agency is actively investigating him to look at his associates, whereabouts and any activity on social media.

The gunman came out of his vehicle with two rifles, a 9 mm handgun and a 7.62 mm caliber SKS rifle.

The FBI found a Google search of truck stops, maps and toll-free routes to the Northern Virginia area on his computers.

In all, five people were hurt in the June 14 attack on a Republican baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia. Hodgkinson kept the rifle and the handgun, which he bought legally after the 2016 presidential election, in a storage locker near the field.

Hodgkinson also visited the office of Vermont Sen. In it, the Federal Bureau of Investigation found a cell phone, a camera and a computer.

The FBI was also able to piece together more of Hodgkinson's actions since he arrived in DC sometime in late March. He approached two congressmen who left the practice early and inquired of them if the practicing team was Republican or Democrat, the officials stated. For weeks, witnesses later said they had seen him spending time - but not working out - at the YMCA across from the field. He said, 'OK, thanks, ' and turned around. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., belonged to several Facebook groups that were anti-Republican and wrote several letters to his hometown newspaper denouncing Republican policies.

There are new details about the gunman who attacked members of Congress on a wide-open field last week. He fired 60 shots during the attack, striking House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise, a congressional staffer, a lobbyist and a Capitol Police officer before being shot and killed himself.

"I would not classify that as a hit list", Slater said.

The FBI did not find any online threats or references either to members of Congress or to the Congressional Baseball Game on Hodgkinson's digital devices. The main one, which is not a surprise by this point, is that the shooter, James Thomas Hodgkinson, acted alone and had no terrorist connections. Battaglia and another officer, Alexander Jensen, arrived around the same time.
