SpiceJet signs deal to buy 40 Boeing 737 MAX 10 jets

"We were pleased to deliver the world's first ever 737 MAX 8 this year and the addition of a further 75 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft reflects our commitment to our customers to have a product offering built around the most technically advanced and efficient aircraft available in the market".

Boeing raised its demand forecast on the single-aisle segment by 5% vs. previous year to 29,530 new airplanes.

The Boeing Company on Monday announced the launch of the 737 MAX 10 as the newest member of the 737 MAX family with what the aerospace manufacturer called "the lowest seat-mile cost of any single-aisle airplane ever produced".

Airbus signed an agreement with Delta Air Lines Inc. for 10 more A321 narrowbodies, while Latin American discount carrier Viva Air committed to take 50 single-aisle jets.

The 737 MAX is the fastest-selling aircraft in Boeing history, accumulating more than 3,700 orders from 87 customers worldwide.

One segment where the two plane makers differ is in their demand forecast for the biggest passenger planes, where Boeing offers the 747-8 and Airbus its flagship A380 superjumbo. Boeing forecast that market could be worth $8.5 trillion over 20 years, growing at an average four per cent a year. Airbus launched a digital services platform on Tuesday, which it said could crunch data to help airlines improve maintenance, reduce fuel burn and optimize routes.

Boeing has long argued that the "very large" category is on its way out as airlines switch to smaller twinjets. Double-decker superjumbos with four engines, such as Boeing's 747, were once viewed as the future of air travel between global hubs.

"The 737 MAX with 197 seats provides Ryanair with the ideal solution for its additional capacity requirements as it strives to carry 200 million passengers per year by the middle of the next decade", said Ihssane Mounir, senior vice president, Global Sales & Marketing, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Scheduled for first delivery in 2021, the latest tranche of 737s for Avalon brings the lessors' owned, managed and committed fleet increase to 925 aircraft. Including other models and conversions of earlier contracts to Max 10s, Boeing's Paris show order tally at the end of the day exceeded $37 billion, versus $12 billion at Airbus. "We have no intention of sharing that market with them, albeit a smaller market than we might have thought". Despite slower growth in some of the hottest aviation markets, Boeing said it continued to see "resilient" demand with a long-term growth trend in traffic of five per cent a year. Since 2016, it has become the largest Romanian airline by scheduled passengers flown, operating flights to more than 100 destinations in 16 countries.

"If you bought a MAX 9 in the past I think you have got to worry about your residual values", Leahy said.

A USA airline added to the bounty for Airbus Monday, as Delta Air Lines placed an order for 10 A320neos as an add-on to a separate order for 30 A321s placed just last month.
