House Majority Whip Steve Scalise has been upgraded to "fair condition", MedStar Washington Hospital Center said Wednesday, a week after the shooting at the congressional baseball practice that left him wounded.
That's why Democrats' and Republicans' decision to go ahead with their baseball game on Thursday in Washington [was] so welcome.
The bureau confirmed Hodgkinson was carrying a piece of paper with the names of six members of Congress at the time of the shooting, but "no context was included on this paper". He rented out a storage unit where he kept more than 200 rounds of ammunition, among other belongings.
Four others were also wounded, and the attacker was killed. He, Mika and others were shot or otherwise injured in a mass shooting carried out by James Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, Illinois, who later died in the hospital of gunshot wounds.
"A review of Hodgkinson's web searches in the months prior to the shooting revealed only a cursory search of two of those members of Congress", the Federal Bureau of Investigation said. Slater declined to name the officials whose names were on the note or say whether they were Republicans or Democrats or were at the baseball practice. A review of his electronic communications also showed contact with the offices of Democratic Illinois Sens.
Investigators believe Hodgkinson had been living out of his van parked near the baseball field since late March after traveling to the area from his home in Belleville, Ill.
Hodgkinson also frequented a local library during his time in the Alexandria area and, based on photographs found on his cellphone, saw various sites in D.C., such as the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress and the Washington Monument. Sanders has previously stated that the shooter apparently volunteered on his presidential campaign.
Scalise, who was shot in the hip and suffered grave internal injuries, remains hospitalized. Two Capitol Police officers assigned to protect Rep. Scalise engaged Hodgkinson in a gun duel, according to the #Alexandria Police Department.
The officers, who were assigned to Scalise's security detail and exchanged gunfire with Hodgkinson, were credited with helping prevent more people from being injured that day. Hodgkinson asked, according to the FBI's account. He would watch the field where the Republican baseball team had been practicing for about two months. "It's Time to Destroy Trump & Co".
