Man killed father with bat at county official's home

This photo provided by the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office shows Michael Marchalk, charged with murder in the death of his father Gary Marchalk.

Marchalk was spotted by Atlantic City police on a Jersey Shore boardwalk and was taken into custody.

After the murder, they say Michael Marchalk stole his wallet and took off in his father's auto. Another son found the father dead in the Ryan Township home he shared with his wife Linda, the Schuylkill County treasurer. Gary Marchalk was lying face down in a bedroom surrounded by blood and with an aluminum baseball bat at his feet.

Gary Marchalk was also married to the Pennsylvania Schuylkill County Treasurer Linda Marchalk. He allegedly tried another transaction hours later at the Wells Fargo Bank in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia before failing again at the Greyhound Bus Terminal in the city.

Marchalk is facing charges of criminal homicide, first-, second-, and third-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, robbery, theft, theft of a motor vehicle, access device fraud, and recklessly endangering another person.

Marchalk was seen on security cameras footage during a time when police believe the murder occurred.

Troopers say Michael had a drug problem and had an appointment at a rehab facility on Monday. Members of the family report that Michael had threatened his dad for months prior to the murder.
