Lakers Expect Ball to Elevate New Teammates

Lonzo Ball, right, is greeted by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver after being selected by the Los Angeles Lakers as the No. 2 overall pick during the NBA basketball draft, Thursday, June 22, 2017, in NY.

The Wolves paid a big price: besides surrendering the lottery pick, they gave up a rising star in LaVine, who is coming off of a torn ACL and Dunn, last year's No5 overall pick. The Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies also are without a pick, while Houston, New Orleans and Washington don't have one in the first round. He had a feeling he was going to be taken by the Lakers.

Ball can also create shots for himself off the dribble with his impressive crossover and is also lethal out of the pick and roll which he has displayed multiple times at the college level.

Immediately after the conference, during which Magic Johnson jokingly begged Ball to let him keep at least one of his franchise records, Ball was shuttled to Dodger Stadium along with his agent, Harrison Gaines, his youngest brother LaMelo, and a few other friends.

Mere seconds after Lonzo became a Laker, LaVar was back on camera in a purple and gold Big Baller Brand hat, boasting about what was next for the Ball family.

Caleb Swanigan, who grew up in homeless shelters in Salt Lake City, was taken in the first round with the 26th overall pick by the Portland Trailblazers. "I'm looking forward to playing".

"I don't think there's one thing you can learn from him". It's exciting times for the LA Lakers.

Less than 24 hours after Ball was drafted by his hometown Lakers, the 19-year-old threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Dodger Stadium. Magic told Lonzo with a grin. "Lonzo is going to be a Laker, and he's going to be part of what we do on the court with the other players that we have, but LaVar is his own person".

"The way that Coach (Luke) Walton wants to coach is he wants that ball moving around".

"We don't need that attention", Kentucky guard Malik Monk said. They said they want me to come in — if I get picked — come in and be a leader and play with a lot of pace.

The Los Angeles Lakers will have a new look at point guard in the upcoming season.
