Kim Kardashian just bought a piece of fashion history

In the interest of investing that dough somewhere worthwhile, Kardashian reportedly attended the Rare Watches and American Icons sale at Christie's on June 21, where she secretly spent $379,500 on a watch that once belonged to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (at least according to TMZ). Sources told TMZ that Kardashian placed an anonymous bid that was dramatically higher than the price they were expecting to fetch - $120,000. None other than Kardashian herself, who reportedly bid on the piece anonymously and took it home for a whopping $395,000.

Based on an engraving of the date February 23, 1963, on the back of the watch, Jackie Kennedy acquired the gold Cartier with a simple black band a few months before her husband, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated on November 22, 1963.

The timepiece was auctioned off on Wednesday at Christie's in New York City. The lot also included one of Jackie's paintings.

Jackie Kennedy's watch and an original painting by the First Lady on display. According to the website, the watch was a gift from the First Lady's brother-in-law Prince Stanislaw "Stas" Radziwill.

Radziwill was one of the participants, as was Kennedy's old Harvard friend Chuck Spalding. The watch fits that claim, as it has no diamonds and is described as "understated". The bling-free watch is in keeping with Kim's alleged vow to lead a less extravagant life in the public eye after she was the victim of an armed robbery in Paris last October (17).

"It's not to say that I'll never wear jewelry again or anything like that".
