Gas infrastructure investment risks breaching Paris Agreement goals

U.N. Environment chief Erik Solheim says the decision by President Donald Trump to pull the United States of America out of the Paris climate accord "in no way brings an end to this unstoppable effort".
At its June Adirondack Park Agency meeting, board members discussed the critical impacts of climate change on the public health, environment and economy of the Adirondack Park and passed a resolution in support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's commitment to combat climate change.
The mayor of Chicago says the city will host a climate summit for North American cities this fall.
The CAT foresees a dwindling role for natural gas in the power sector toward the middle of the century, not only to meet the Paris Agreement goals, but also due to increasing competition from renewables.
The country ratified the agreement "in the context of sustainable development and efforts to eradicate poverty, as well as the control of global temperature rise and the strengthening of capacities to adapt to the adverse effects of climate change", the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
"Natural gas is often perceived as a "clean" source of energy that complements variable renewable technologies", said Bill Hare of Climate Analytics.
Trump removed the United States from the Paris accord regarding climate change.
Trump, on Wednesday, chose to pull out of the landmark global agreement created to fight climate change.
Scientists say some of the islands may not make it through the next 100 years.
President Donald Trump recently announced the US would withdraw from the Paris climate accord to help the USA economy. He does not agree that the accord is the best way to respond to, or to address, climate-change issues.
In a speech made Thursday, President Trump said "I was elected to represent the people of Pittsburgh not Paris".
"There is no question that China will show leadership on climate, including putting a cap and trade system in place, investing in renewable energy, ramping down carbon emissions, ramping down coal", Gordon added.
