Until now, the fastest Camaro was the stock ZL1, which set a very impressive seven-minute-and-29.6-second lap time a year ago. The 1LE option package adds a raft of upgrades - including a drop of weight of 60 pounds (27 kilograms) or the Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve adjustable front and rear dampers - but features no power enhancements over the ZL1's 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 650 horsepower.
The 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE (order code A1Z) carries an MSRP of $69,995, which includes a $995 destination charge (excludes tax, title, license, dealer fees extra).
It has taken only seven minutes and 16.04 seconds for the upcoming Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE to lap the Green Hell. This designation means the vehicle has added racing suspension, new aero components, Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R summer-only tires, and a lighter weight.
The Chevy Camaro just keeps getting faster and faster, this time setting yet another new mark for the 2-seat coupe at the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. The only American auto which has ever turned in a faster Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time is the Dodge Viper ACR, which ran a 7:12.13 lap back in 2011.
Seeking the ultimate track-ready pony auto, Chevrolet took the Camaro ZL1 to the limit by shedding more weight, fitting an advanced Formula One inspired suspension, and installing a monstrous aerodynamic package.
"The harder you push the Camaro ZL1 1LE, the more it rewards you on the track", said Bill Wise, Camaro ride and handling engineer and the driver of the hot lap.
The name of the game here is 7:16.04, a better time than what the Porsche 911 GT2 RS posted in 2010.
