China calls on U.S. to withdraw THAAD deployment in South Korea

South Korean President Moon Jae-in observed the test-firing of a new midrange missile the country is developing to cope with growing threats from North Korea.
Park didn't say how far the Hyunmoo-2 missile flew or where it landed, but said it accurately hit its target space.
The remarks came in reaction to a question by a USA journalist in a recent interview with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, in which the interviewer from CBS stated it was not clear whether U.S. President Donald Trump would "agree to allow" his South Korean counterpart to negotiate with the North Koreans.
In the survey by the National Unification Advisory Council, 76.9 percent of respondents said South Korea should restore dialogue channels with North Korea as part of efforts to play a leading role in the resolution of the North Korean nuclear problem. It also conducted two nuclear tests previous year as it pursues development of a long-range nuclear missile that could reach the US mainland.

He has revealed that only one United States rocket launcher was supposed to be deployed in South Korea in 2017, and five more in 2018. Aside of expanding its missile arsenal, South Korea is also strengthening its missile defense systems, which include Patriot-based systems and the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense battery now under deployment in the southeast county of Seongju.
Since Moon took office in early May, North Korea has test-fired five ballistic missiles, one of them being a new intermediate-range missile, adding to the inter-Korea tension which had grown during the former conservative Park Geun-hye administration.
"As the North Korean missile provocations have continued and advance, our national people and I as a president have been wondering about the missile capabilities of our military", President Moon said.
