Pakistan's former captain Shahid Afridi has asked the national team to build on its ICC Champions Trophy 2017 triumph and show more consistency in the future. Also, she said that the Sarfraz XI had deserved this recognition.
While the final of the ICC's secondary 50-over competition attracted an estimated televised audience of hundreds of millions as Pakistan crushed India at The Oval, the governing body is keen to capitalise on the exponential rise of its shortest format.
Victories against higher-ranked sides saw Pakistan move up two places to sixth in the MRF Tyres ICC ODI rankings, outting them course to qualify automatically for the 2019 World Cup in England.
Sarfaraz held up the trophy to loud cheers and chants of "Long live Sarfaraz!" as a police band played patriotic songs nearby.
Earlier, talking to newsmen at the Karachi global airport Sarfaraz thanked Almighty Allah for the victory and whole nation for praying.
"This has been happening for several years, whenever there is an India-Pakistan match".
Sarfraz was showered with bouquets and given a traditional skull cap and an ´ajrak´ shawl, which is usually presented as a mark of honour. "Team Pakistan! welcome back after such a tremendous victory" were erected at Allama Iqbal International Airport, along with a picture of the team carrying the trophy. "People are not coming forward at this stage but I think someone would have made a video", he said.
With the eighth edition of the Champions Trophy done and dusted, it's time for the team to collect their reward money.
"The turnaround has left the world bewildered and has brought a wave of ecstasy and unbridled joy for Pakistanis all around the world". Fakhar Zaman was the Man-of-the-match for his superb century. "With the World Cup becoming a ten-team event, it's nearly like the World Cup is becoming more like the Champions Trophy, which I think is a good thing", ICC CEO David Richardson was quoted as saying by Espncricinfo on Wednesday. "This was the whole team s effort".
