Another leadership test for Pelosi, who's weathered many

During a recent press conference regarding the tough loss in Georgia's special election, Pelosi was forced to defend herself against rumors that she might be losing her ability to lead.

She says Democrats "gave them a run for their money in all of them". "This became a focal point in our messaging, as well as other outside groups and the Handel campaign itself".

Pelosi brushed off the tweet, contending that Trump hadn't actually written it himself because "it's a classic Republican line".

But Pelosi continues to command great loyalty from many in the House, and she insisted her position was not in jeopardy.

President Donald Trump is lashing out at top Democrats on Twitter. Instead, Ryan argued voters want to know how Democrats will address economic concerns and grow jobs, and so far the party doesn't have a coherent message on that. "It is not fun being in Washington when you're in the minority". They need to go away now! They're not. They're not talking about Putin, Russia, Flynn. I thought the time was last November, and I was very vocal about it. "And we better focus", Ryan said. "So let's get started on winning the races where we really do have a chance".

Ryan told reporters Wednesday "there's a level of depression" among members and said bluntly, "Our brand is toxic". At this point a coup seems unlikely, though Vela said, "I think there was consensus within the room that there are other members within the caucus who feel just like we do". So it's time for change.

That's partly because they have so much practice. We've seen again and again how effective that machine can be: one Democratic politician after another has begun with a profile as an inoffensive, hardworking, substantive public servant (think Dukakis, Gore, Kerry), then quickly turned into a monster who threatened everything Republican voters hold dear.

"This is not anything personal between me and Nancy Pelosi. But she certainly is one of the reasons".

"I do not believe she's an out-of-touch San Francisco liberal", said Rice. Some of that advice is coming from people who obviously don't have the Democrats' best interests at heart, but a lot of it is honest. "She fits the stereotype of exactly what swing voters can't stand about the Democratic Party".

The leadership of the House Democratic Caucus tried to put the best face on Tuesday's special election losses in Georgia and SC by saying they're making progress, and the GOP victories were much more narrow than in the past. Surprise, the Republican won!

House Democratic leaders are taking some comfort in coming in a close second for a seat that's always been firmly in GOP hands.

"I respect the comments of some in our caucus, but right now we must be unified in order to defeat Trumpcare", the minority leader said in a written statement to CNN.

"She's easy to demonize". Schumer being the Democratic leader in the Senate and Pelosi in the House is the Kiss of Dead for Democratic Party prospects in 2018 and if they stick around in 2020 the Presidency too. And she remains the party's most prodigious fundraiser, bringing in $567.9 million for the party since she joined leadership in 2002.

That wouldn't last forever, but by the time it faded, the conservative propaganda machine would have replaced her with a different villain. But Pelosi maintained that familiar GOP strategy only proves she is an asset.

Mr Ossoff tried his best to rally his supporters, in a humble concession speech late on Tuesday night. "We don't agonize. We organize".

"The Republican playbook for the past four election cycles has been very focused, very clear: It's been an attack on our leader", Ms. Rice said.

"It works only 100 percent of the time", said Todd, the GOP ad-maker. "It's like the gift that keeps on giving", Rice said.
