76ers Select Washington G Markelle Fultz No. 1 In NBA Draft

The 76ers had the No. 1 pick for the second straight year after trading with the Boston Celtics on Monday. The deal makes the Timberwolves look like a playoff team in the Western Conference.

The 19-year-old Fultz, who is the club's fourth top overall pick, averaged 23.2 points, 5.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals over 25 games last season for a Huskies team that was 9-22.

UCLA's Lonzo Ball answers questions during an interview after being selected by the Los Angeles Lakers as the second pick overall during the NBA basketball draft, Thursday, June 22, 2017, in NY.

Butler's long-term status in Chicago has been in doubt for some time, despite the fact he is a three-time all-star who was a third-team All-NBA selection this past season, the first time he'd received that honor. He explained as much in his exit interview with reporters following the 2016-17 season.

Fultz, who starred for the Dawgs for one year at Montlake, went number 1 in Thursday's National Basketball Association draft.

Over the past 10 seasons, only two other freshmen had a better scoring average in college: Kevin Durant for Texas in 2006-07 and Michael Beasley for Kansas State in 2007-08.

During a dizzying few days of deals around the National Basketball Association, the presumed No. 1 pick had his Saturday plans - not to mention his future destination - change when the Philadelphia 76ers brought him in for a workout.

Philadelphia had the No. 1 draft spot three previous times, taking Doug Collins in 1973, Allen Iverson in 1996 and Simmons. The Sixers have sold a franchise-record 14,000 season tickets for 2017-18 and expect to sell out all of their home games.

For the past four seasons, the Philadelphia 76ers have done what everyone expected them to do: They've lost a ton of games, but they've done so with eyes toward a promising future. But the National Basketball Association has this: a summer night in which fans of all ages come together to be a part of the sideshow. The Sixers went 28-54 last season.

Fans and the media have shared their opinions on this. "I think I do everything at least decent", Fultz said. "And I'm just looking forward to going in there and giving it my all and hopefully changing the program around".
