The Timberwolves almost flipped Rubio to the Knicks at the trade deadline.
The Sixers started this whole draft process with the fifth overall selection and ended up moving up to No. 3 with the pick swap from the Sacramento Kings.
With the third pick acquired from the Sixers, the Celtics opted to use their pick than go with another trade and chose Duke wing Jayson Tatum.
And if the last few days are indication, what follows might be a wild night inside Barclays Center.
How many times has he been asked about the outlandish things his outspoken pops, LaVar Ball says and how that has impacted how teams feel about him? "This is the easy part", Fultz said regarding the dream of having his name called No. 1 in the draft.
Fultz was hyped as a possible No. 1 draft pick from the time he stepped on campus at Washington.
"It just shows you what the National Basketball Association is about. They all got different types of games", Fultz said. "It just shows you how this business is and like I said, I just go with the flow".
"Me, I got cut from (junior varsity in high school)".
Though Fultz heads what's widely regarded as a strong draft class, the young stars have had to share the spotlight this week with veterans who are - or could be - on the move. There the buzz early this week was mostly around Jimmy Butler and Paul George trades, but potential deals for LaMarcus Aldridge, Kristaps Porzingis and more have taken over.
And while some people - among them, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver - may think the one-and-done system needs to be revamped, Calipari disagrees. "I believe I fill in every box on both ends of the floor".
The Charlotte Hornets took guard Malik Monk from Kentucky with the No. 11 overall pick.
Fultz's selection at No. 1 is also historic as it makes the Washington Huskies the first program to provide the first overall pick in both the National Basketball Association and WNBA drafts in the same academic year.
"It would mean a lot to play for my hometown and learn from the best point guard ever", Ball said.
Kentucky's De'Aaron Fox was the third point guard taken, No. 5 overall by Sacramento. Celtics President Danny Ainge said after making the trade he thought he could get the player he wanted two spots lower.
"The big thing we used to say back then was Trust the Process, not transferring schools", Fultz told reporters in NY a day before the draft.
Only Kevin Durant (Texas, 2006-07) and Michael Beasley (Kansas State, 2007-08) averaged more points as a freshman over the past 10 seasons. But with the Warriors as dominant as they are, teams know they'll probably just have to wait.
But they should be able to find someone good Thursday.
"I think that he's a guy that we thought really highly of from Day 1", Stevens said. They sold a touch under 10,000 last season and have accepted more than 1,000 partial plan deposits just this week.
