Major League Baseball is not adding an expansion team so please don't freak out about this list.
The Vegas Golden Knights finally have some players to put on the desert ice this fall.
No surprise that the Golden Knights took Cody Eakin from the Dallas Stars even if Foley announced the pick ahead of schedule. In the end, the Golden Knights elected to take the hard-hitting Emelin, who became notorious for his hard-but-clean hip checks. "It's a natural rival and I hope it evolves that way".
McDavid's victory capped a breakthrough sophomore season for the 20-year-old center, who won the league scoring title and led the Oilers back to the Stanley Cup playoffs after an 11-year absence.
The hockey world's eyes will be fixed on Las Vegas on Wednesday night when the league's newest franchise, the Vegas Golden Knights, reveal their expansion draft picks at the NHL Awards show at T-Mobile Arena. Poor Jason Garrison had to walk out there in a jersey that didn't have his name on the back, after they detailed how Tampa Bay gave the Knights a second-round and fourth-round pick for the defenceman to be selected, plus another player.
Vegas general manager George McPhee's stated blueprint included drafting an over-abundance of defensemen and then immediately - by Thursday - trading some of them.
The expansion draft affects every team in the league, so numerous stars convening in Vegas will be paying close attention to the names of the teammates they'll be losing to Sin City.
After meeting with the Board of Governors earlier in the day, Knights chairman and CEO Bill Foley said he was already "very proud" of the roster assembled by McPhee.
It guaranteed that Vegas would take Fleury over the handful of other goalies that were available, and it made sure his contract, which will pay him $5.75 million annually over the next two years, was off the team's books.
Worth the gamble: Fleury could be joined by an established 20-something backup, like Philadelphia's Michal Neuvirth, Detroit's Petr Mrazek, Colorado's Calvin Pickard or New York's Antti Raanta. Marchessault surprised many by leading the Florida Panthers with 30 goals last season and Smith had 25 goals two seasons ago when they won the Atlantic Division, although he slumped to 15 last season. Those guys cannot be picked up by the Golden Knights, but anyone who is not protected can be "stolen".
Earlier Wednesday it was announced by the National Hockey League that the Avalanche will play their home opener on October 11 against the Boston Bruins. Vegas coach Gerard Gallant told reporters that the Golden Knights will invite 44 players to development camp next week, which will help determine what's in store for the Wolves.
The Avs will also play the Devils on October 7.
The Devils finished seven points out of a playoff spot in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season.
The Vegas Golden Knights' expansion draft also is part of the show.
