Steve Scalise Making 'Good Progress' After Shooting, Hospital Says

Congressman Scalise has been upgraded to fair condition, which is a huge improvement from the critical condition that he was in when he entered the hospital just one week ago.

Federal authorities said Friday the gunman in last week's congressional shooting at a baseball field carried a list of Republican lawmakers' names in his pocket, according to a report from USA Today. Scalise is now "beginning an extended period of healing and rehabilitation", the hospital said. Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa said in a statement that Griner was in good condition in the hospital after getting shot in the ankle and that Bailey was treated and released following a minor injury. He has undergone several surgeries and received multiple blood transfusions. Bailey was one of the first responders to Wednesday's early morning shootout as he was part of the Republican congressman Scalise's security detail. A congressional aide, a lobbyist, and two U.S. Capitol Police officers assigned to protect Scalise also were shot.

Scalise was the most seriously injured in the attack. The bullet pierced his pelvis, fracturing bones and injuring internal organs.

Scalise arrived at the hospital "with an imminent risk of death", Sava said.

"So he's doing - he's doing a lot better", said Ryan. Facebook Live viewers also witnessed Capitol Police officer David Bailey throw out the ceremonial first pitch alongside Major League Baseball executive and ex-New York Yankees manager Joe Torre.

Scalise is expected to be in the hospital for weeks.

Barth was shot in the leg and has already been released from the hospital.
