OnePlus 5 Review: The cheaper and faster alternative to Apple's iPhone

OnePlus appears to be championing the new handsets dual lens camera array as its main selling point, rather than the solid specification. And yet the OnePlus 3 and the Oneplus 3T were priced at nearly half of the price of the other flagship phones like the Galaxy S7 and the iPhone 7. The rounded edges in the design add beauty and give the flawless look of the premium smartphone.

Which OnePlus 5 model would you have liked better? The display offers deep blacks and good saturation which supports sRGB and DCI-P3 color standards. However, the QHD will pamper the users, and not many will find fault with it. There's no curved edge glass or extra-tall display here, but the OnePlus 5 feels great in the hand, even though the design looks a bit dated compared to some of 2017's other flagships.

The OnePlus 5 uses the OxygenOS operating system, based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The 64GB model will cost £49/month while the 128GB will be £51. Even with the OnePlus 3, the Chinese OEM made a decision to take things the simple way when the exterior was the primary concern.

The OnePlus 5 adds a Pro Mode, too.

OnePlus 5 gets dual rear cameras - 16MP+20MP telephoto lens - which is also the highlight of the device. There is a 16-megapixel rig that captures wide-angle shots and a 20-megapixel sensor that captures zoomed photos without any compromise. This camera is powered by Sony IMX371 sensor, which offers image stabilisation and f / 2.0 aperture. The brand claims that it increases the focus speed by 40 percent.

The two OnePlus phones have impressive selfie cameras, rated at 16Mp, but it's the primary camera at the rear which is most interesting.

The OnePlus 5 is extremely different from the previous models of OnePlus not just in looks but also in its features. It is capable of shooting full-HD (1080p) video.

The makers of OnePlus 5 seem to have found the right balance of features versus cost with this product. They have brought about some software and hardware optimizations to ensure a better performance.

Considering all, OnePlus 5 is definitely a major update over its predecessor. At the back, there is a crescent antenna bands running at the top and the base, while the dual-camera setup is situated at the top-left corner.

Is 8GB of RAM overkill for a smartphone? Lots of Chinese manufacturers have taken inspiration from Apple as far as smartphone design goes, but let us not hammer the company time and time again. The Live streaming of OnePlus 5 India Launch will begin at 1.55 pm IST on the official page of OnePlus India, and people have already signed up and are waiting for the unveiling of the new OnePlus mobile phone.
