Yoga connecting world, says Modi as millions stretch and bend

Indian and the rest of the world are today celebrating the third International Yoga Day with many events taking place in top cities such as New Delhi, London, New York.

He urged all to make yoga a part of their lives.

Indian scholars believe yoga dates back 5,000 years, based on archaeological evidence of poses found inscribed on stones and references to Yogic teachings in the ancient Hindu scriptures of the Vedas. Having said that all, initially when you start doing it, it is always highly recommended that to perform it under t the supervision of a trained yoga teacher.

The theme for the 2017 celebration, organised by the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, is 'Yoga for Health.' The theme highlights the fact that yoga can contribute in a holistic way to achieving equilibrium between mind and body.

Conveying his greetings to all those who joined the Yoga Day 2017 celebrations across India and the world, Prime Minister Modi said Yoga's huge popularity outside India is high and has connected the world with India. "Yoga was in existence even before the hymns came into existence", he said. After addressing the gathering, which cheered him from time to time, the Prime Minister joined the gathering in the open air venue, amid heavy rains, and practised yoga for more than 15 minutes.

The Ayush Ministry released the budget of 25-30 cr for the 3 global yoga day celebration.

"Just as the importance of salt is not only to lend taste to food, but also ensure well-being of the body, similarly yoga can have the same importance as salt has in life", he said. "Much like it connects the mind with the soul, yoga is playing an important role in connecting the world", said Modi, dressed in a white track suit. The stage is all set for the yoga day and people are actively participating in the World Yoga Day.

The United Nations designated International Yoga Day in 2014. Recently Jawaharlal Nehru University also approved a Certificate Course in Yoga Philosophy. Uttar Pradesh CM and Governor Ram Naik have inspected the location including the security arrangements for the Yoga Day event and attended full-dress rehearsal on Monday morning.
