Following news that Floyd Mayweather will return to the ring to face UFC star Conor McGregor, we look back at when the American star switched codes to face WWE wrestler Big Show. The fight has been rumoured to take place inside the MGM Garden arena in Las Vegas, which has been the host of fights such as Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield and even Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao.
Ireland's McGregor will be the heavy underdog against 49-0 Mayweather but Holm knows a few things about upsets, after she ended Ronda Rousey's unbeaten run with a brutal knockout in 2015. Mayweather is arguably the greatest boxer of all time going against McGregor, who has such a strong belief in himself that it seems he manifests his victories as if he has some sort of magical power.
McGregor, 28, is the current UFC lightweight champion and former UFC featherweight champion.
However, that means McGregor vs. Mayweather would need to take in nearly double the $600 million the American's fight with Manny Pacquiao made - dubbed "the richest night in sports history". He has a ideal record in his career, with 49 victories, and without a single defeat. Speculation has the two fighters earning approximately $175 million combined for the bout.
FOX Sports UFC analyst Rashad Evans: "I think this fight is incredible".
The fight is expected to be a 12-round boxing match, with 10-ounce gloves.
The mixed martial artist will be competing in his first professional boxing match when he steps into the ring with Mayweather. I'm not saying Floyd Mayweather's going to win.
Deadspin said, "McGregor has roughly as much chance of beating Mayweather in an actual boxing match as you do of beating Kobe Bryant in a dunk contest". On the other hand, the 28-year-old McGregor is now at 7/1 odds, or +700, meaning he would return $7 for ever dollar wagered on him. "Whenever he hits people, they fall", said White.
Conor McGregor is the biggest attraction in MMA and one of the biggest draws in all of sports.
