Trump's legal plan quite simple so far: Fight, fight, fight

In a manner that would probably please his boss, Sekulow twice made mention of television ratings when comparing the reach of a cable network with President Trump's reach on social media. After his first 100 days in office, 83 percent of Republicans polled still approved of Trump's job performance.

Another Trump Administration official has hired private legal counsel as multiple investigations continue into potential Trump campaign collusion with Russian Federation as well as alleged obstruction of justice by President Donald Trump himself. He said Trump's tweet was not a confirmation of the investigation, but instead a response to a report in The Washington Post. Russian officials have denied meddling in the United States election.

The primary problem with the current partisan fixation on obstruction of justice potentiality is that the required "corrupt intent" can not coexist with the defined constitutional power of the presidency; this is because, as head of the executive branch, the president's authority to remove the Federal Bureau of Investigation director is a plenary discretionary one, meaning that it is a complete and absolute power to take such action.

Robert Mueller, the special counsel named by the Justice Department to probe the Russia matter, is investigating whether anyone associated with Trump or his campaign had any illegal dealings with Russian officials or others with ties to the Kremlin.

"It's possible we will have an answer to that at the end of the week", Spicer said, according to CNN reporter Jim Acosta.

But legal scholars say there is a strong case for obstruction of justice charges against the president, based on Trump's statement during an interview that he fired Comey because of the FBI's branch of the investigation and memos Comey wrote indicating the president pressured him to drop part of the investigation.

"The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt", Trump tweeted on Sunday.

President Trump is now in the grip of this situation.

The Justice Department has said Muller's work at the firm does not disqualify him from leading the investigation.

"I'm just one lawyer", Sekulow said.

The two were formerly law partners at Washington firm WilmerHale.

Conway on Monday told Fox & Friends that nobody has told Trump that he's under investigation, and instead, Trump's tweet last week was a response to "a Washington Post report that included five anonymous sources".

Several congressional panels continue to investigate Russians meddling in the US election which has cast a shadow over the early months of Trump's presidency. Schiff is the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee and is helping to lead that branch of the Russian Federation investigation.

Afterward, Sekulow went into a diatribe accusing Wallace of "putting words" in his mouth when he had been "crystal clear that the president is not and has not been under investigation".

Not so, the White House shot back, as did one of Trump's attorneys on Fox News Sunday.
