It comes a day after lawmakers questioned Justice Department officials about the probe and Mueller's independence.
The Washington Post reported Wednesday that special counsel Robert Mueller is seeking interviews with Coats and two other Trump administration officials and that the Russian Federation investigation is widening to examine whether President Donald Trump tried to obstruct justice.
President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday for the first time that he's being investigated for his role in firing Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, calling the probe a "witch hunt". Comey said he believes Trump ultimately fired him "because of the Russian Federation investigation".
Pres. Trump says being investigated by "man who told me to fire the FBI Director!" That, not a political witch hunt, is what the nation needs.
It was unclear whether the president's comment confirming he was under investigation was based on direct knowledge or media reports that Mueller is examining whether the president obstructed justice by firing Comey.
President Donald Trump is telling his Twitter followers that they are witnessing the "single greatest WITCH HUNT in American history".
Earlier this month, Rosenstein told The Associated Press that "if anything that I did winds up being relevant to his investigation then, as Director Mueller and I discussed, if there's a need from me to recuse, I will".
Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller, told AFP he now has "13 attorneys on board, with several more in the pipeline".
The widened Russian Federation probe could have far-reaching repercussions for Trump's presidency, transforming his closest aides into witnesses and sucking even more political oxygen out of the West Wing.
A weekend at the rustic mountain getaway is a far cry from the president's normal routine of jetting off to one of his lavish resorts, mainly Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
The Twitter attacks came as vice president Mike Pence hired a personal lawyer to represent him in the intensifying investigation.
Pence tapped far-from-average lawyer Richard Cullen, who litigated the 1980s Iran-Contra scandal, the Watergate affair and the 2000 vote recount in Florida.
Trump hadn't publicly admitted he was personally under investigation until now.
"As the deputy attorney general has said numerous times, if there comes a point when he needs to recuse, he will". Trump cited the memo in firing Comey.
"Even his staunchest supporters will balk at such a blatant effort to subvert the law", Feinstein said.
After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my "collusion with the Russians", nobody has been able to show any proof. Sad!
"The Fake News Media hates when I use what has turned out to be my very powerful Social Media - over 100 million people!"
"If he fires Mueller, I will tell you, we are right on the brink of a constitutional crisis", the IL senator said. But it was released shortly after The Washington Post reported - citing unnamed United States officials familiar with the matter - that the business dealings of President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are being investigated by Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller, who has been investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election and the Trump administration's potential ties to Russia.
"This is a huge development because the investigation is no longer exclusively focused on a presidential campaign and concerns about collusion".
