The Pickup Game Talks NBA Draft

This trade is huge since Philadelphia also had number one pick in last year's National Basketball Association draft, where they drafted LSU star Ben Simmons.

Our short local nightmare is over, as the Sixers and Celtics have completed the trade that will bring the top overall pick to Philadelphia.

The Sixers and Celtics agreed to a trade that sees Philly acquire this year's #1 pick, in exchange for this year's #3 pick, and a future first round draft pick. In that scenario, the pick would convey to 2019.

Last week prior to the rumored trade between Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers, ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported that Lonzo Ball's camp is considering talks to other teams that have lottery picks below the Los Angeles Lakers.

The pick is protected at No. 1 and 6-30, meaning the Sixers would send the Kings' 2019 first-rounder or the Sixers' own 2019 first-rounder (each protected if No. 1) if the LA selection doesn't convey. "We feel like we're going to be adding the best player and the best fit (at No. 1)".

Possibilities for the Celtics who could still be available at the third pick include forwards Josh Jackson and Jayson Tatum.

And that means the Celtics could be gearing up for more moves soon. "The timing of the deal and the protections on the pick suggests both teams were negotiating on common grounds". As we saw in Los Angeles, Brandon Ingram did not start, and he slowly got into the rotation. "The Huskies went 9-22 overall, 2-16 in the conference, and finished the year on a 13-game losing streak".

Ainge explained why he made the trade several days before Thursday's draft, as opposed to seeing what might have developed as the event drew closer, by saying, "Sometimes when you get an offer you want, you don't want to wait for that offer to go away". " ... I think this is somebody they really wanted and stepped up to get". During his work at the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Season 2016-17, he was able to garner an average of 23.2 points, 5.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game. The Celtics have the luxury to select a role player with one of the first few picks of the draft - Jackson's upside remains high. Giving up the top pick and a chance to draft Markelle Fultz for a yet-to-be-identified future asset seems risky on its face, but Ainge insisted that he wasn't actually giving up anything in the trade. Fultz would join a Philadelphia roster that includes Simmons, Jahlil Okafor and 2017 Rookie of the Year finalists Joel Embiid and Dario Saric. If other teams weren't willing to give up multiple future picks for the opportunity to draft Markelle Fultz, than maybe he isn't as great as we think he will be?
