Pacers could start George trade talks with Cavs

The future first round pick will be the Los Angeles Lakers' 2018 pick if it's within the No. 2 to No. 5 range of the 2018 draft. However, if either of those 2019 picks result in the first overall selection, Boston will instead receive the other first-round pick. With the Lakers zeroing in on UCLA guard Lonzo Ball, all signs point to Ainge taking Kansas swingman Josh Jackson with the third pick.

Washington Huskies guard Markelle Fultz (20) dunks against Colorado Buffaloes forward Tory Miller (14) during the first half at Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Plus, Boston now has even more ammo to use in a deal for an established star like Indiana's Paul George.

This trade is huge since Philadelphia also had number one pick in last year's National Basketball Association draft, where they drafted LSU star Ben Simmons.

The caveats and protections act as a safeguard in case the Sixers get lucky in the lottery so that they don't miss out on a potentially once in a generation talent, while still giving the Celtics another likely high first-round pick. He didn't seem to mind at all. "We think there's a really good chance that we'll take at three, the same player we would have taken at one; an impactful asset". Who won the deal, and who got fleeced in the rare transaction involving the top selection in the draft? With the Noel trade, all we could think about was "What would Hinkie have gotten?" It goes back at least to the 1956 trade of Bill Russell to the Celtics by the St. Louis Hawks, which received Ed Macauley and Cliff Hagan. In exchange for surrendering their pick, the Celtics will be receiving a third overall pick, and a future first rounder. So, trading away such an asset, even if for a No. 3 pick, will be met with criticism from some fans. Imagine Ben Simmons actually playing this season, and Joel Embiid playing more than every other game or so.

Should Ainge be a bit nervous about his decision, especially if Boston isn't able to put together a blockbuster trade?

Jimmy Butler has been the guy most people around the league believe the Celtics are interested in going after. If Fultz turns out to be the next Russell Westbrook or James Harden, Ainge will be the one responsible for creating a young, playoff rival in Philly.

Shortly after the announcement of the deal, Team President Danny Ainge met with the media to give the thinking behind the trade and what might happen going forward.

Ainge is the man responsible for acquiring Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in the same summer, leading to Boston's 17th banner in 2008.

The Celtics and 76ers had agreed on the parameters of a deal on Saturday night after Philadelphia held a workout with point guard Markelle Fultz, who will become the fourth No. 1 overall pick in franchise history by the 76ers on Thursday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
