Boston received the 76ers' 3rd overall pick in the draft plus a future first-round pick from Philadelphia in exchange for making the move.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets agreed to a surprising deal that sent D'Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov to the Brooklyn Nets for Brook Lopez and the 27 overall pick. However, if either of those 2019 picks result in the first overall selection, Boston will receive the other first round pick instead.
His performance garnered national attention, and even in a freshman class loaded with talented point guards like UCLA's Lonzo Ball and Kentucky's De'Aaron Fox, Fultz rose up the draft boards and found himself projected as the unanimous No. 1 in the draft by the middle of the season.
The Celtics could be gearing up for more moves.
Josh Jackson's decision not to work out for the Boston Celtics has been a story line throughout the pre-draft process, but the expected top-five pick explained why he never met with the team Wednesday. "And Ainge mentioned [Monday], he said 'Listen, this was the best deal we were offered by a wide margin'". Washington point guard Markelle Fultz has always been widely regarded as the best draft prospect, who Philadelphia is now expected to pick, but Ainge indicated Monday that his team's evaluation was not so clear-cut. Fultz, who went to high school in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, led the Pac-12 in scoring and finished No. 6 among all Division I players.
The Cavs, still licking their wounds after being blasted by the Golden State Warriors in the recently concluded National Basketball Association finals, are in play as well.
Together with Simmons, Jahlil Okafor and 2017 NBA Rookie of the Year finalists Joel Embiid and Dario Saric, the 76ers will have a young core of talent that could provide a formidable base upon which to rebuild the team.
David Griffin's run with the Cleveland Cavaliers is over after one championship and three straight trips to the NBA Finals.
When the 2017-18 season begins, we'll get a look at how each team's side of the deal played out. The general manager and team mutually parted ways on Monday when owner Dan Gilbert said Griffin's contract will not be extended once it expires June 30, AP reports. I said I need more.
