Vietnamese people celebrate International Yoga Day

The United Nations (UN) declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga after adopting a measure proposed by PM Modi.

Minister of Parliament Gan Thiam Poh, who is the Guest of Honour, noted the benefits of doing yoga, and said, "Yoga is a very good sport and is popular among Singaporeans all age groups". "As yoga awareness grows in Great Britain and beyond, I do hope that more United Kingdom travellers will make plans to come and experience the benefits of yoga in Incredible India". Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared photographs of the Yoga Day celebrations in several countries through his Twitter handle.

Nitish Kumar made the statement a few days ahead of International Yoga Day which is being held on June 21 for the last three years.

Thousands of Israelis are expected to attend an event in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv on Wednesday from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. - the summer solstice - and participate in various yoga exercises and workshops.

Majority of people are ready to shell out money from Rs 5,000 month to Rs. 25,000 a month for yoga classes, as they consider it an investment for their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, the paper noted.

The event began with the inaugural address by India's Ambassador to Japan Sujan Chinoy, who read out the message of the Prime Minister. The young Yoga ambassadors will also enable a direct connect with the younger population in China attracted to Yoga, the embassy said in a statement.

Following Government of India's initiatives and plans for celebration of International Day of Yoga, Embassy has been organizing various yoga related curtain-raiser events to welcome and promote the International Day of Yoga. "Yoga should be respected and accepted on global level", said Yoga Guru Ramdev.

"Nearly 92,000 inmates lodged in various jails of the state will be participating in the International Yoga Day celebrations from the jail premises itself", Uttar Pradesh minister of state for jail Jai Kumar Singh told PTI. "What you will see during this week is this day being celebrated in similar gatherings in every country in the world", he said, to applause.

The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) has been working tirelessly to make the International Yoga Day functions across the country and the world a grand success. Emphasising the increasing relevance of Yoga in this day and age, the Prime Minister explained Yoga's role as a means of experiencing and achieving holistic life in a balanced way, while the External Affairs Minister underlined the role of Yoga in relieving stress.
