Special Counsel Is Reportedly Investigating Jared Kushner's Business Dealings

The Post seemed to imply that because Kushner sought financing during that time for one of his building projects, the meeting "could raise questions about whether Kushner's personal financial interests were colliding with his impending role as a public official".

His investigation is still in a relatively early phase, and it is unclear if any criminal charges will be brought when it is complete, the Post pointed out.

The Post reported that the interviews represent a widening of the probe to include looking into whether the President obstructed justice in suggesting to his former FBI Director James Comey that Comey drop the investigation into Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser, as well as for his firing of Comey. Mr Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about Russia-related matters.

'He will do the same if he is contacted in connection with any other inquiry'. Mueller's investigation now encompasses the president's firing of Comey, the Russian government's role during the election, whether members of the Trump campaign colluded with Russian officials and alleged financial crimes committed by Trump associates.

The Washington Post was first to break the news of the investigation on Thursday.

Friday morning, Trump attacked the allegations in a tweet, saying "nobody has been able to show any proof".

In December 2016, Kushner met with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak in New York City.

Congress can defend our system of checks and balances by passing an independent counsel law that empowers an independent prosecutor to take over the Russian Federation investigation and anything that arises from it.

Since his appointment on May 17, Mueller, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation director, has recruited a high-powered team of lawyers, investigators and prosecutors with deep expertise in areas ranging from financial fraud to constitutional law.

"We do not know what this report refers to".

This has always seemed very plausible to me, that Kushner was trying to use his position of influence with Trump to make a quid pro quo - I'll help get the sanctions lifted if you agree to finance our troubled real estate holdings.

Comey testified before a Senate panel last week that Trump spoke privately with him several times, including by telephone and at White House meetings. "And so that was his view throughout", Comey said.

As Mueller's probe continues, Vice President Mike Pence has retained private counsel over this matter.

Kushner has emerged as one of the most powerful figures in Donald Trump's inner circle, taking the lead on many key initiatives, including the arms deal with Saudi Arabia that topped $100 billion.
