Shiv Sena questions BJP's ability to resolve Kashmir conflict

"Uddhavji told him that he will convene a meeting of the party leaders to arrive at a decision and convey our answer to him in one or two days", he said. Jaitley also talked to the BJD leadership, which has maintained that it will take a call based on who is fielded by NDA. Reportedly, Shiv Sena President Thackeray has stuck to his party's aggressive stance on the issue of the Presidential polls.

The Congress and other opposition parties might put forward former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar's names for the country's top post. Many party leaders have suggested that its top brass may opt for somebody moored to the saffron party's core ideology, but there has been no word from the leadership.

Summary: Presidential polls: Amit Shah meets Shiv Sena chief Uddhav ThackerayAmid reports of sharp differences between BJP and ally Shiv Sena over the presidential poll, a senior BJP member said that Sena would support NDA in the elections, to be held in mid-July.

The Shiv Sena, the second largest constituent of the NDA, has had an uneasy relationship with the BJP ever since the two parties parted ways ahead of the 2014 assembly polls. The BJP has remained non-committal to the names though it has said it is open to discussions. Shah, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, visited Thackeray's residence "Matoshree" and held a close-door meeting, which started around 10 am and lasted almost 75 minutes. The meeting was also attended by Uddhav's son Aditya, leader of Sena's youth wing, and Chief Minister of Maharastra Devendra Fadnavis. BJP's Maharashtra unit chief Raosaheb Dhanve was not part of the deliberations though he accompanied Shah to Matoshree, Thackeray's residence. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would decide the name of the candidate. We are hopeful of receiving Shiv Sena's support.

Though the Bharatiya Janata Party chief did not disclose the names of any candidate for the post of President, he sought Thackeray's support for the NDA nominee who would be announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. BJP ally Shiv Sena, though, has objected to it. You will win all elections.

The BJP leaders indicated that they would get in touch with the Sena, once there is some consensus on the presidential nominee within the BJP.
