Trump says he's under investigation, his lawyer says he isn't

A barrage of damaging stories emerged this week, including a Washington Post report that said Mueller's probe has expanded to also explore whether Trump obstructed justice by firing former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, who was overseeing the Russian Federation probe, and allegedly pressuring intelligence officials to interfere in the probe.

The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt.

And second, said Nichols, the tweet appears to be Trump "attacking the Justice Department".

The new development Thursday appears to be that the inquiry has shifted to Mueller.

Rosenstein wrote a memo in May to Trump strongly criticising FBI Director James Comey's performance.

The Russian bank, Vnesheconombank, which has been the subject of U.S. sanctions following Russia's annexation of Crimea, has said Gorkov and Kushner's meeting was held for business reasons because of the advisor's role as head of his family's real estate company. Still, the snowballing investigation has deeply angered Trump, who denies he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation.

James Comey, who was sacked by Trump last month, publicly testified this month that Trump had told him to ease off on his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who was under the FBI investigation for his Russian links.

The President's tweet - seeming to confirm the probe based on news reports - came as a surprise to the President's own legal team, according to a person briefed on the matter.

The president has publicly lamented the Russian Federation probe in recent tweets, calling it a "witch hunt" in various tweets.

Sekulow responded that Trump couldn't be indicted "because there's not an investigation".

In a combative and testy exchange on "Fox News Sunday", Sekulow acknowledged he could not know for sure that Mueller has not opened an investigation, but he said he had no reason to believe he had. She was appointed to the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight board in 2012 by President Obama, then appointed to the associate attorney general position by Trump.

A close Trump associate said this week the president was considering firing Mueller, although the White House later denied it. Marco Rubio said Sunday that he does not expect Trump to seek to fire them. But regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey.

Moscow has denied any interference.

"Evidently the White House is considering firing Mueller".

Comey, whom Trump fired in early May, said in Senate testimony earlier this month that the President spoke to him privately on February 14 and asked him to drop the bureau's investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's alleged ties to Russian Federation. "Sad!" he wrote in one post.

Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein submitted a widely circulated memo to the president last month raising concerns over Mr Comey's performance, but Mr Trump later said he had already made the decision to fire Mr Comey. They are former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, his business partner Rick Gates, a national security adviser Carter Page, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and informal Trump adviser Roger Stone.
