Ronaldo's Portugal held by Mexico at Confed Cup

Hector Moreno's stoppage time header for Mexico ensured the points were shared with Portugal.

Hector Moreno scored in added time to earn a point for the Mexicans five minutes after Cedric put the Portuguese in front.

A giant screen reports a VAR incident is being reviewed during the Confederations Cup, Group A soccer match between Portugal and Mexico, at the Kazan Arena, Russia, Sunday, June 18, 2017. So we have to stay calm and think about the next game.

"We need to keep believing in ourselves, we know we have a great chance".

The UEFA and CONCACAF winners went head-to-head at Kazan Arena, and Portugal were the brighter of the two sides in a first half that was open and attacking.

"We could have killed off the match but it didn't happen".

Santos' side improved from there, though, and when Carlos Salcedo allowed Ronaldo in on goal on the left, the forward quickly adjusted to an uncharacteristic stumble to slip a pass into the box for Quaresma, who coolly rounded Guillermo Ochoa to prod into the net.

"I first of all thank the fans for voting for me, but it's not the result that we wanted".

One "clear error" might be overturned every four or five games, Federation Internationale de Football Association head of refereeing Massimo Busacca suggested past year.

The FIFA Player of the Year, who had scored 11 goals in seven games coming into Sunday's encounter, was perhaps not as influential as usual but was still named man-of-the-match.

Ronaldo reportedly wants to leave Real after being accused by Spanish prosecutors of defrauding the authorities of €14.7 million (US$16.5 million, RM17.4 million) in tax through offshore companies. However, the VAR disallowed the goal for an offside infringement earlier in the move.

Cristiano Ronaldo fed Ricardo Quaresma through for the opener in Russian Federation, but Javier Hernandez equalised for Mexico before the break.

He said: "It was not the result we wanted, the team had the game nearly won and we conceded a goal in the last minutes, but that is football". "At the beginning we couldn't enjoy good control of the ball, but then we managed to balance things out and could have won it in the end".
