Homeowner stops armed would-be robbers with machete

Police say a homeowner in Florida used a machete to fend off five would-be robbers at his home.

He was eventually able to disarm Beltran-Vazquez, who was reportedly carrying a shotgun, and held him until police were able to arrive.

The fearless bloke even managed to disarm one of the men of his shotgun during the melee, detaining one of the robbers until police arrived on scene.

The victim was 'in fear for his life and retreated to his residence and grabbed a machete, ' reported ABC News.

According to the Sheriff's Office, three masked men armed with a shotgun, crowbar and machete jumped the fence of a home in the 2100 block of Dodge Avenue after 4 a.m. on Thursday.

Moments later the homeowner returns wielding a large machete, rushing bravely at the armed invaders causing them to flee in terror.

The victim even managed to hold one of the raiders until the police came after the ordeal in his Sarasota home. Inside the vehicle, deputies said they found "four men wearing dark clothing ... one of whom was carrying several zip ties".

According to the deputies, the man was able to disarm one of the suspects and caused the rest to flee.

Detectives identified Jorge Valido-Leyva and Roberto Salcedo-Balanza as the other men in the vehicle and through interviews, learned that they helped coordinate and plan the robbery. Valido-Leyva and Salcedo-Balanza face two counts each of principal to armed robbery.The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
