Boeing unveils plans for new version of 737 Max

"The 737 MAX family of airplanes is the flawless combination of single-aisle aircraft for the Lion Air Group, with their new level fuel-efficiency as well as range and capacity capabilities", said Lion Air Group President Edward Sirait.

"We are delighted to welcome Tibet Financial Leasing as a new Boeing customer and a launch customer of the newest 737 MAX family member", said Ihssane Mounir, senior vice president, Global Sales and Marketing, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

As part of the new move - announced at the Paris Air Show - Boeing said it will unveil later this week orders and commitments for more than 240 737 Max 10 jets from more than 10 customers.

Because the Boeing 737 jet family is smaller and lighter than the Airbus A320/A321 family, Boeing claims the MAX is more fuel efficient that the A320neo and so gives airlines much better economics.

Not to be outdone, Airbus is close to clinching a roughly $5 billion deal with low-priced carrier Viva Air Peru for about 30 planes, two industry sources said on Sunday.

Low-priced carrier SpiceJet on Monday said it has signed an MoU with Boeing for 40 737 MAX airplanes.

Numerous sources are also expecting the American manufacturer to unveil details for an entirely new aircraft, now touted as Boeing's New Midsize Airplane, or NMA. With those orders in hand, Boeing and its engineers will have the jet ready for airlines in 2020.

A Reuters photographer got up close to the roughly three-metre-high split wingtip which has been installed on an A380 belonging to the Air and Space Museum at Le Bourget airport, where the Paris Airshow opens on Monday.

The mid-market is "a growth market where Boeing won't let Airbus and potential Bombardier , said Luigi Peluso, co-head of the aerospace, defense and airlines practice at consulting firm AlixPartners".

The Air Force says the F-35's backup oxygen system worked in each instance, and the pilot was able to land the plane safely.

Engine makers will also be drumming up new business, with China Eastern expected to tap French-U.S. engine maker CFM International to provide the power for Airbus A320neos already purchased for delivery starting next year.

The new, stretched plane can carry between 180 and 230 passengers, more than its predecessor, the Max 9.

"Our customers told us to build it bigger", Boeing Commercial Airplane chief executive Kevin McAllister told CNN.

Airbus is expected to announce a production cut to less than one plane per month for the A380 beginning in 2019.
