Trump appears to confirm he's under investigation on Twitter

The Post reported that the obstruction of justice investigation of the president began days after James Comey was sacked as the FBI Director on May 9. He also told the Senate Intelligence Committee in 8 June testimony that he believed Trump had directed him to drop a related agency investigation into the president's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

Friday's tweets are the latest in a week of angry social media responses by the president over a report by The Washington Post that Mueller was looking into whether Trump obstructed justice.

A few days after the March 22 meeting, Mr Trump spoke separately with Mr Coats and Mr Rogers and asked them to issue public statements to the effect that there was no evidence of coordination between his campaign and Russia, AFP reported. Mueller is a former Federal Bureau of Investigation director. On Monday, a Trump friend said the president was considering dismissing Mueller, although the White House said later he had no plans to do so.

Vice President Mike Pence has also hired a private lawyer to represent his interests in the expanding probe. "Witch Hunt", the president wrote on Twitter. According to White House sources speaking to Politico, his staffers are annoyed at the fact that they can't seem to get anything done because all POTUS wants to talk and think about is the Russian Federation investigation.

The new allegations against Trump center on his own admission that he fired Comey because of the Russian Federation investigation, and suggestions he asked several top intelligence officials for their help altering the inquiry's direction.

"I'm growing increasingly concerned that the president will attempt to fire not only Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating possible obstruction of justice, but also Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein who appointed Mueller", wrote Democratic Senator from California Dianne Feinstein.

The widened Russian Federation probe could have far-reaching repercussions for Trump's presidency, transforming his closest aides into witnesses and sucking yet more political oxygen out of the West Wing.

A close Trump associate said this week the president was considering firing Mueller, although the White House later denied it. Trump initially used that memo along with a recommendation from Sessions to justify firing Comey.

Mr Trump's legal team quickly denounced the report on Wednesday, Reuters reported. Do you think President Donald Trump is a "conspiracy victim" or the perpetrator?

The president didn't clarify what exactly he was referring to in the early morning tweet, however he has frequently described reports about possible ties between members of his campaign and Russian Federation as a "witch hunt".

In an early-morning tweetstorm, Trump blasted the investigation as a "witch hunt" and a "phony story".

President Donald Trump groused Thursday that no one is investigating Democrats' "dealings with Russia" while there are multiple investigations into what he phrased as his "non-dealings" with Moscow.
